What is Exploring the Faith?
It is a faith learning opportunity for parent(s) and their children at All Saints Lutheran Church.
Each student will have the opportunity to participate in an age appropriate learning opportunities with their parent(s). This curriculum was developed by Pastor Jules Erickson in order to partner with parent(s) in developing children’s faith. It is primarily based upon the baptismal vow made on the day of the child’s baptism.
The Lutheran Book of Worship asks parent(s) and sponsors to fulfill the following obligations:
“ In Christian love you have presented these children for Holy Baptism. You should, therefore, faithfully bring them to the services of God’s house, and teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments. As they grow in years, you should place in their hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for their instruction in the Christian faith, that, living in the covenant of their Baptism and in communion with the Church, they may lead godly lives until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Therefore parent(s) and students together explore our Christian faith:
- 1st g raders study the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer and create a prayer mat.
- 2nd graders receive Luther’s Small Catechism and read through each section in class.
- 3rd graders will have the Holy Bible placed in their hands by their parent(s) thus fulfilling the promise their parents and sponsors made on the day of their baptism.
- 4th graders meet with a pastor in their home and read through the Gospel of St. Mark.
- 5th graders prepare for first communion during the season of Lent, first communion is on Maundy Thursday.
- 6th graders meet with the youth director and discuss life transitions: the move from elementary school to junior high, Sunday School to Confirmation, conflict management, and how to slow down in a busy world.
